Another night of
the neighborhood demonstrating disapproval of locating a homeless drop-in
shelter on the same block as a preschool. The project coordinator for Grand Central Neighborhood Social Services agency proposing the shelter in this location was quoted in The Post, saying "...it would provide video surveillance and additional security to safeguard the block." - which is an admission that they know there is a safety risk here, but they, and the Dept. of Homeless Services are still unwilling to change their minds about the proposed site. |

| The demonstration was cut short a little early by the police who needed to start setting up barricades along the street for the United Nations General Assembly's security - and still the proposal of adding a men's homeless drop-in shelter on the same block as a preschool, the same block as the U.S. Mission, the block across from the United Nations that has been blocked off to traffic since September 11th, still stands. |
