The block, being directly across from the United Nations, has been blocked off to traffic since September 11th and will remain blocked off indefinitely to maintain security for the U.N.

The Coalition For Sensible Location of Grand Central Homeless Services has located 3 potential site alternatives for the drop-in center and continues to work with the support of Community Board 6, the Turtle Bay and Tudor City Associations

The orange dump truck, manned by the Dept. of Sanitation and extra police have been stationed at the corner of 45th and Second Avenue since September 11th. The drop-in shelter's proposed location is two doors down, just 235 feet from the International PreSchool. neighborhood demonstration
